History
:
What we call a "Lazy Susan," a revolving serving tray usually used to distribute condiments or appetizers, was originally called a "dumbwaiter." Thomas Jefferson is often credited with the invention of the Lazy Susan. This intellectual and wealthy lover of books went so far as to invent a spinning book stand, so he could refer to several books at a time.

Material:
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is made by steaming softwood chippings of birch and larch until they are reduced to fine wood fibers. These are then bonded together with resin and pressed into boards in a similar way to conventional chipboard. The result is a smooth-surfaced board which is much more stable than natural woods. There are no identifiable grains or knots seen at the edge, end or face nor any internal voids or pits or variation in surface hardness. It is an environmentally friendly product as the recovery rate of the raw material is almost 100%.

Nine ready-to-finish stock sizes to select from.
Custom sizes from 8" to 30" are also available on request.
All can be crafted with a routed or square edge, depending on your preference.

These 3/4 inch thick segments of Medium Density Fiberboard spin freely on high quality low profile US made lubricated polished steel ball bearings. The lazy susans are cut on a shaper table using carbide tipped cutters to ensure a crisp clean-cut design and are completely sanded and ready-to-finish. We also lubricate the steel bearings on all our lazy susans before assembly to ensure a smooth and quiet rotation.

» Maximum balanced load rating is 300 pounds for the 12, 14 and 16 inch units.
» Maximum balanced load rating is 750 pounds for the 20, 24 and 26 inch units.
» Maximum balanced load rating is 1000 pounds for the 30 inch units.

» Bearing sizes can also be adjusted on many units when required by the application.

Use them for revolving shelves in kitchen cabinets, an art and office tool organizer, floral arranging, television bases, bathroom toiletries, cake decorating, fondue, game boards, computer monitors, 3D photography, setting those heavy potted plants or Bonsai trees on and they are ideal for persons with limited range of motion.

The non-surface marring bases that the lazy susans rotate on are 1/4 inch smoothly sanded three-ply hardwood and are also circular in profile to add to the surface stability. The total height of the susans are approximately 1-3/8 inches and the simplicity of design blends in well with any decor and will lend convenience to any application. The appropriate size for table use should permit 12 to 15 inches around the susan for table service.

MDF is ideal for latex or oil painting, mosaic or ceramic art, decoupage and is an excellent foundation for veneers and laminates of all kinds. It will accept a broad range of sealers, primers, and coatings to produce a hard durable surface and is an excellent choice for a wide range of projects. The susans are shipped assembled but if you prefer to finish the Lazy Susan without the base attached merely remove the four bottom screws and reattach them upon completion. This is especially recommended if you are working with ceramics, as it will prevent any abrasive material from entering the steel ball bearing track.
