The the ready to finish items we handcraft here in Western New York for professional painters, ceramic and mosaic artist and resellers throughout the US are made from Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF).

Medium Density Fiberboard is made by steaming softwood chippings of birch and larch until they are reduced to fine wood fibers. These are then bonded together with resin and pressed into boards in a similar way to conventional chipboard. The result is a smooth-surfaced board which is much more stable than softwoods. There are no identifiable grains or knots seen at the edge, end or face nor any internal voids or pits or variation in surface hardness. It is an environmentally friendly product as the recovery rate of the raw material is almost 100%.

MDF is ideal for latex or oil painting, mosaic or ceramic art, decoupage and is an excellent foundation for veneers and laminates of all kinds. It will accept a broad range of sealers, primers, and coatings to produce a hard durable surface and is an excellent choice for a wide range of projects.
